About Us
The Department of Health was founded in 2810 by King Franklin I primarily as the agency responsible for public health on Sivad.
Over time, the Department's mandate grew to regulate Sivad's burgeoning biotechnology industry. The Department had jursidction over Specialist issues until 3001 with the creation of the Ministry for Specialist Affairs.
In 2895, the Sivadian National Health System was founded as a semi-autonomous agency of the government. The SNHS established a public health insurance system and a system of public hospitals.
In 2915, the Sivadian Institutes for Health were founded to coordinate government research in the health and life sciences.
The Public Health Service was removed from the Royal Naval Service in 2932 and made a part of the Department of Health. However, it remains a uniformed service of the Sivadian government.
Today, the Department of Health handles government policy on a wide range of issues, including food and drug safety, public health, hospitals and health insurance, biotechnology and human genetics, and long-term care.
The Department is headed by the Minister for Health, currently the Honourable Geoffrey Cruyer. Its lead medical advisor is the Chief Medical Officer, Sir Neville Mayhew.
