The Sivadian National Aquarium has a dual purpose: the first is educating the Sivadian public about undersea life. The second is to carry out important research in marine biology.

Currently, the Aquarium's major research project is the Othosentepholopod Communication Project. Although the othos have no apparent audible means of communication, it is obvious from their behaviour that they do communicate in some form. The project will attempt to determine how othos communicate with each other.

Although legend holds that othos have psionic abilities, researchers do not believe that psionic abilities could have evolved naturally on Sivad.
